about

Naarm/Melbourne-based textile artist Meg Sears has lived and worked across Boorloo/Perth, Europe and Melbourne. She is currently completing a Master of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts, following a double degree in Contemporary Fashion and Visual Arts at Edith Cowan University and a Bachelor of Design (Textiles) at RMIT, Brunswick.

In 2012, Meg was selected for the Banshu Textiles Exchange Program in Japan, where her textile designs were realised as woven fabrics and presented through fashion collections in Japan and Australia. Her practice has also included a collaboration with menswear label Politix, with designs selected for commercial production in their Spring/Summer 2020/21 collection.

Working primarily with textile waste, Meg’s current practice explores a playful approach to material experimentation, reconfiguring refuse through soft sculpture to examine our culture of desire, mass production, consumption and contemporary systems of value, whilst challenging our perceptions of what we consider to be waste.
